Let's Talk About BB Cream

So, late on the bandwagon am I. I kept reading about BB Cream on beauty blogs. I had no idea what they were but I've been on the hunt for a less expensive alternative to my beloved Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. I don't really wear foundation, I just like a very light coverage and LM does the trick. I occasionally use concealer under my eyes if I'm having a rough time.

The other day while I was in the drugstore, I noticed that the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB was in a package similar to the Laura Mercier, and it was only $8. I picked one up and tried it out yesterday.

BB Cream promises a lot. They supposedly moisturize, cover, conceal, offer SPF protection, brighten and even skin tone, and enhance with zero oil or heavy ingredients. That's a pretty big promise and I wasn't expecting much, especially for $8.

Right after applying - like 30 seconds after. BLECH! I was going to take it right back to CVS. I hate even posting this, both because it looks blech and because it's not a flattering photo. But I'm trying to keep it real here.

I have to tell you - I was pleasantly surprised! I used my usual daytime moisturizer (Aveeno Positively Radiant SPF 30) and used my fingers to apply the BB Cream exactly like I would with my Laura Mercier. At first take I thought it made my skin look very pale and I wasn't glowing at all. And my dark circles stood out even more.

I slapped on a touch of loose powder (Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil) and WOW! I took another look in the mirror and my skin had really woken up! The coverage was much better than my beloved LM in the under eye circle department - I didn't need concealer. I really only needed mascara and some lip gloss to look normal.

After giving the BB Cream five minutes, my skin really was bright, even and enhanced. The look lasted all day, too. It's 9 pm and I still look alive - which isn't always the case! My skin also didn't dry out or get oily all day, it stayed pretty much at its natural state (how it feels when I wake up in the morning).

About seven hours after applying - and seven hours of chasing around a toddler. Complexion still looks good, although the under-eye concealing part is fading. I really need to learn to embrace the tripod and give a real smile to the camera. It feels weird, though.

Consensus: I will definitely buy the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream again. It will be replacing my Laura Mercier until something better comes along.

I found this Guide to BB Cream on The Daily Makeover that might help you find the best BB Cream for your skin, but seriously. Maybelline. $8. Buy it at CVS & if you don't like it you can return. But you're going to love it.

Also, just a word from the housekeeping department: This blog is not turning into a beauty or review blog, despite what it looks like right now. The deeper things on my mind right now are really...strange...and I don't want them out there for the world to see. But I think it's best for me to get back in the habit of blogging so that if/when I am ready to share more with you guys are ready to listen. Thanks for understanding!
