If you have a home and you do not yet have Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook, you need to buy it immediately! I bought this book as soon as it came out, even though I did not yet own my own home. It has proven to be indespensable on many occasions.
Incidentally, I cannot find my book right now, which proves I need it even more than I thought I did! Seriously, if I can lose a book this large in a bungalow with only a little over 1,000 sq. ft., maybe I have problems that even Martha will be unable to fix!
The items in the book I found to be most helpful were the cleaning schedules. Fortunately, I typed them into a pretty little Excel sheet a year or so ago, so I still have them handy even though my book is currently MIA (or not in "A" since it's obviously not had action in quite some time). Martha includes daily tasks, weekly and monthly chores, and seasonal cleaning and schedules. I added the "Maid List" tab for our previous housekeeper - previous as I should have gotten clued in when I had to provide the most basic schedule!
My modified version of Martha's schedules can be found here. Please email me if you are unable to view the Google docs and I can send you the Excel version.
Happy homekeeping!

My brother got this for me Christmas a year ago... it might have been a hint that my housekeeping skills needed a hand ;) I haven't looked through it in a while though, and your post has motivated me to pull it out!
I've been thinking about getting this, but I hadn't really heard any reviews. Thanks for the post.

I know you posted this forever ago...but I just wanted to tell you "thank you, thank you, thank you". I purchased this book two years ago and absolutely love it (as I do all things "Marthy") and I have been meaning to put together something just like this. And now you've saved me the time. Thanks again!
